I use the surname ‘Whitman’ for almost all my primary characters. I was slightly obsessed with The Darjeeling Limited (watching at least once a week, sometimes twice, for quite some time) when scripting That’s Not Me, and it is a reference to the three brothers.
My old dressing gown has now featured in five of my short films (That’s Not Me, Ring Ring, Killer Bird, Toast and Man In A Suit)
I like introducing secondary characters by framing them from behind or/and at a distance – it gives the audience a sense of separation and a feeling that this person isn’t our protagonist.
My voice features in three short films (That’s Not Me, Killer Bird and Two Pound Forty Pence).
On Ring Ring, I did every production role myself – even the boom.
There are three unreleased short films I made whilst at university – titled Nyetimber Hill, Stranger and a short documentary about metal detectors.
I was an electrical apprentice at a power station before deciding to pursue filmmaking.
I was captain of his school football team and played as a forward.
I dropped film studies at college.
An actor had to drop out of Killer Bird due to illness on the second day, so the script was partly improvised as all the scenes had to be reworked whilst filming.
